The projects displayed on ROBOPHONO are artistic and critical interpretations of old and new media. They act as original research resources for bygone artists, technologies and content. ROBOPHONO is dedicated to creating web-specific art works through the use and reuse of audio artifacts displaced by the constant transformation of media. The media resources selected as project materials for work posted on ROBOPHONO are not based on aural elements alone. Selections also include distribution, packaging or degradation. The shared premise for all of the works on ROBOPHONO is that each project is inspired by differing aspects of audio technologies that have disappeared or are disappearing from our culture of sound.
